Deeside-based property developer, Edwards Homes has helped a local Scouts group to replace badly-needed camping equipment with a donation of £500.
On Saturday 22nd September, the company’s sales negotiator Trish Rooney presented the cheque to scout leader Robert Benyon at the group’s premises on Bradshaw Avenue in Saltney Ferry. The event was also attended by Saltney Mayor Jason Shallcross.
Established in 1930, the 1st Saltney Ferry Scouts and Guides Group runs a wide range of activities. It has a thriving membership of around 130 children and it serves a vital role within the local community. However, its very popularity sometimes puts a strain on its equipment, as was recently shown during a camping trip in bad weather, which saw two of its canvas dining shelters damaged beyond repair. Without the shelters, places on future trips would have to be severely limited, so when Edwards Homes managers spoke with the group, they saw an opportunity to help.
“The Group does some great work,” said Trish Rooney. “It provides local children with a brilliant combination of fun, education and personal challenges, so as a local business, we were more than happy to support it.”
Receiving the donation, Scout leader Robert Benyon said: “Everyone in the group is extremely grateful for the support Edwards Homes have provided. It allows us to replace vital equipment. It will benefit so many local children over the coming years, and we thank them so much for their help. We took 44 members of our group on our previous week-long camp, and without replacements for the shelters we would not be able to allow them all to go. It is fantastic that Edwards Homes have stepped in.”
The Scout Group welcomes children aged from 6 to 17. It attracts members from a wide catchment area, which includes Edwards Homes’ latest development on Mayfield Park. This is now under construction and, when complete, it will feature 70 new units – a mixture of 3 and 4-bedroomed houses.
